LA New Construction Permits | Fast Approvals
New Construction Permit
Any time you are starting new construction on your property in Los Angeles, you need to get the appropriate permits from the Department of Building and Safety.
What permits do I need for my new construction in Los Angeles?
If you are building new construction in Los Angeles, there are various permits that you may need, depending on the scope of your project.
- Building Permit
- Electrical Permit, Including Solar Power
- Mechanical Permit – This includes HVAC, elevators, plumbing and fire sprinklers
- A Permit – This is used for the repair, construction or reconstruction of sidewalks, driveway ramps, curbs or gutters. If you are applying for an A Permit, the slope of your new construction must match the existing grade. For example, if you are replacing your driveway ramp, the new one has to have the same slope. If you have to move a water meter, gas valve box, street light, or parking meters, you have to coordinate with the corresponding agencies.
- B Permit – These are required when you are completing extensive improvements to the public right of way. For example, if you are widening a street or an alleyway or installing sewer and storm drains. These plans typically have to be signed by a licensed Civil, Electrical or Traffic Engineer.
- Excavation Permits – If your construction project requires a public right-of-way to be trenched, you need to get an excavation permit.
- E Permit – This is needed if you need to relocate a street light, shoring, monitoring well, soilboring, private conduits, etc.
- S Permit – This is your sewer and drain permit.
You may need other permits, as well, depending on the scope of your project, location and other factors.
